Engine and Performance

Both the bZ5X L and the bZ5X LE have a single motor that powers the front wheels. A total of 196 pound-feet of torque and 201 horsepower (150 kW) are within this motor’s capabilities. Additionally, both the L and LE bZ5X models are equipped with a standard one-speed automatic transmission. Both the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Subaru Solterra are identical; the only difference is that the former has 229 pound-feet of torque while the latter has 229 horsepower. In its rear-drive-only form, the 225-horsepower, 320-pound-foot-torque Kia EV6 easily outshines both of them. Selecting the bZ5X with two motors and all-wheel drive results in a total of 214 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque.

With front-wheel drive (FWD), the bZ5X can travel 406 kilometers, and with all-wheel drive (AWD), it can take you 367 kilometers. You can’t tell these cars apart just on their ratings. In city driving, the bZ5X achieves a fuel economy of 1.8 liters per hundred kilometers. On highway driving, it drops to 2.2 liters per hundred kilometers, and in a mixed-mode scenario, it drops to 2.0 liters per hundred kilometers. (This is in liters equivalent, so it’s not far off from the competition when compared to the right amount of gasoline energy.)

At the time of writing, the bZ5X had not received a rating from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); however, it had received the maximum possible rating of “Good” in all IIHS tests. Prices for the Volkswagen ID.4, Kia EV6, and Nissan Ariya start at around $49,000, $49,995, and $52,500, respectively. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV is one of the more affordable two-wheel-drive automobiles. Each and every one of these prices include delivery, but they don’t add any possible subsidies. As I cruised along in my test vehicle, I failed to notice that I was behind the wheel of an almost $52,000 electric vehicle.
