As disappointing as it is, I have decided to part ways with the Tacoma EV at this point, even if it impresses me in most other aspects. For some reason, this forces me to sit with my legs nearly totally straight out, which gives me leg cramps and backaches all day long. The seat’s height can now be adjusted independently, unlike before when it could only be adjusted by moving it back and forth. But even with this adjustment, drivers of average height will still be cramped, and those with particularly towering frames will be even more pressed against the ceiling than previously. Although the seats are comfy and have supportive cushions and the right amount of bolstering, the incorrect placement of the seats in the truck makes them ineffective. Driving a Tacoma EV is like getting behind the wheel of a car from a bygone era in terms of comfort and handling. Although the steering wheel input is generally well-received, the road feedback is quite limited. Even if the Fox shocks improve the ride quality, you could feel a wallowy sensation on flat ground. Even though the brakes work flawlessly, I occasionally feel that the pedal is smooshy, and I would prefer it if the brakes bit a bit sooner. Although there is always a compromise when a vehicle excels off-road, the Tacoma EV manages the challenging terrain with relative ease. This is due to the fact that the Tacoma EV is equipped with four-wheel drive. The crawl control, which functions as a low-speed cruise control and can be adjusted in increments, allows you to traverse long areas of terrain without using the throttle. The onus for adjusting the multi-terrain choice to situations like mud and loose stones is on it.

Engine and Performance

The sole available engine for the Tacoma EV is a 3.5-liter V6, which can generate 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. The removal of the vehicle’s four-cylinder engine is the reason behind this. All trim levels include standard four-wheel drive, and buyers can choose between a manual and automatic six-speed transmission. The consumer has these choices. This engine is more powerful than the Frontier’s V6 or the Ranger’s turbocharged four-cylinder, but it’s still less powerful than GM’s 2.8-liter turbo-diesel or the Gladiator’s 3.6-liter gas engine. With only 260 pound-feet of torque, the Gladiator is below the Tacoma EV in terms of torque rating. Although the Ranger has a torque output of 310 lb-ft, the Frontier can manage 281 lb-ft, and the smallest diesel engine offered by GM can reach 369 lb-ft. Having said that, other from the bragging rights it offers you, this will not leave you feeling left out in any anyway. Its throaty growl and strong acceleration make it an ideal match for the truck.

With an automatic transmission, the Toyota Tacoma EV may achieve an official combined number of 11.9 liters per hundred kilometers, which is based on estimates of 13.0 liters in the city and 10.5 liters on the highway. The Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) grade it got puts it in the center of the pack when compared to rivals with four-wheel drive automatic transmissions. The small diesel engine offered in the Colorado and Canyon uses the least amount of fuel, at 10.5 liters per hundred kilometers, which is not surprising. But the Ranger’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine isn’t far behind, clocking in at 10.9. In comparison to the Tacoma EV, the Gladiator and Frontier all have higher fuel consumption rates; the GM V6 uses 12.2 liters, the Gladiator 12.3 liters, and the Frontier 13.5 liters per hundred kilometers. The vehicle’s fuel usage is the subject of all these numbers.

A number of active safety features are available on the Tacoma EV, including adaptive cruise control, emergency front braking, lane-departure alert, and lane-departure warning, among others. Even though midsize vehicles are smaller than full-size vehicles, the prices of midrange autos are still very high compared to full-size vehicles. When it comes to medium-sized trucks, this is one complaint many have. A well-equipped Tundra Crew Cab 4×4 TRD Off-Road could be mine for the same amount as my Tacoma EV with TRD Pro, and I’d still have $30 to spare. The base price of a Toyota Tacoma EV is $37,450, which is around the average for cars in its class. However, when you go up to more costly trim levels, the vast swaths of hard plastic covering the truck give the impression of being relatively inexpensive. That being said, it is easy to clean, which is a great quality in an off-road enthusiast’s ideal product.  For an extra $3,000, you can get a more affordable TRD option package on my tester. It does not appear that this package is too terrible. The package includes a sunroof, wireless charging, leather upholstery, a monitor that shows the terrain, and a system that monitors blind spots.
