2027 Toyota Tacoma MPG, Interior, Dimensions – Despite the popularity of big rigs, the Canadians have a soft spot for compact vehicles like the Toyota Tacoma, which is why it is the best-selling midsize truck in the country. There are fewer choices for the year 2027. There are still manual gearbox options for the Access Cab and the Double Cab, which is the vehicle I tested, but the regular four-cylinder engine and two-wheel drive are no longer available. The current standard on all variants is a V6 engine and four-wheel drive. New optional features are available at every trim level as well.

Equipped with an automatic transmission, my vehicle was a Double Cab SB (short bed, measuring five feet instead of the usual six-foot-1 box) TRD Off Road, which begins at $43,750 (as opposed to the basic price of $47,450). With the addition of a TRD Pro Package, the total cost of my vehicle was $56,150 before taxes and delivery, plus an additional $12,400.

2027 Toyota Tacoma Redesign and Update Plan

Exterior and Interior

This is where this truck and I part ways, unfortunately, even though the Tacoma impresses me in most other categories. The Tacoma’s low-mounted seat provides additional headroom in the rear, while the truck’s high floor provides ground clearance.2027 Toyota Tacoma Interior

As a result, I experience leg cramps and back pain whenever I sit with my legs nearly straight out. Even though the seat can now be adjusted in height (rather than just back and forth), it still isn’t moveable enough to provide a comfortable position; drivers who are particularly tall will find themselves even more pressed against the roof. Despite the sturdy cushions and moderate bolstering of the seats, their placement in the truck makes them uncomfortable. I really do not want to take this vehicle on a lengthy journey.

2027 Toyota Tacoma Specs

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power driver’s seat, satellite radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, premium audio, navigation, an off-road body kit, crawl control, terrain selection, and Bilstein shocks were all part of my tester’s TRD Off Road level, which started at $43,750. In contrast, the Fox shocks, Rigid Industries fog lamps, plush upholstery, distinctive grille, 16-inch wheels, sunroof, and TRD-tuned suspension with remote reservoir were all part of my $12,400 TRD Pro package. An additional $1,200 gets you a snorkel-style air intake, the only upgrade beyond that.2027 Toyota Tacoma MPG

I didn’t get one for my tester. Despite its aquatic appearance, this snorkel is actually designed to draw clean air from the area above the windshield rather than the wheel wells. This is useful when driving on dry roads, where dust is more prevalent, but it does come with its own set of regulations, such as not allowing automatic car washes and having to flip the scoop around when driving in heavy snow or rain. Sadly, a heated steering wheel—a feature that is very popular in Canada—is not available on any of the trim levels.

Engine and Performance

The Tacoma no longer has a four-cylinder engine; instead, it is equipped with a 3.5L V6 that produces 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. One can choose between a six-speed manual or the six-speed automatic that came standard on my test vehicle; all variants are four-wheel drive. That’s about average when compared to its rivals’ horsepower ratings; it’s lower than the Gladiator’s and GM’s 2.8L turbo-diesel and 3.6L gas engines, but higher than the Frontier’s and Ranger’s V6 and turbocharged four-cylinder engines, respectively.2027 Toyota Tacoma Engine

The only vehicle with less torque than the Tacoma is the Gladiator, with 260 lb-ft. The Frontier produces 281 lb-ft of torque, the Ranger 310 lb-ft, and GM’s tiny diesel can go all the way up to 369 lb-ft. You won’t be let down by it, though, aside from the bragging rights. The six-speed automatic works quite fine, and it’s a perfect match for the truck thanks to its powerful acceleration and raspy snarl. Despite the popularity of multi-speed transmissions, this one gets the job done. 2027 Toyota Tacoma MPG

2027 Toyota Tacoma Fuel Economy

The combined official figure for the automatic-equipped Tacoma is 11.9 L/100 km, with ratings of 13.0 L/100 km in the city and 10.5 L/100 km on the highway. I averaged 14.6 L/100 km over my week on the road, which is not very good. Based on its rating from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), it is positioned in the middle of its four-wheel-drive auto-equipped competitors. The Colorado and Canyon’s little diesel naturally has the lowest fuel consumption at 10.5 L/100 km, while the Ranger’s turbocharged four-cylinder comes in second at 10.9. With 12.2 L/100 km, GM’s V6, 12.3 L/100 km, and 13.5 L/100 km, the Frontier’s antiquated 4.0L V6, are thirstier than the Tacoma. 2027 Toyota Tacoma MPG

2027 Toyota Tacoma Safety Features

Tacoma owners get adaptive cruise control, emergency front braking, lane departure alert, and lane departure warning as part of the active safety features package that comes standard on all Toyota vehicles. Like many new cars, this one comes with a rearview camera as standard equipment, but the TRD Pro option includes blind-spot monitoring, which isn’t available on the base model. 2027 Toyota Tacoma MPG

2027 Toyota Tacoma Price and Release Date

Many find it frustrating that midsize trucks aren’t priced significantly lower despite being smaller than full-size trucks. I could get a well-appointed 4×4 TRD Off-Road Tundra Crew Cab for the price of my TRD Pro-equipped Tacoma, plus an extra $30. Consequently, consumers should focus on the features of midsize vehicles rather than their shortcomings.

Starting at $37,450, the Tacoma is in the middle of the pack for its sector. However, when you upgrade to more expensive trim levels, the truck’s wide expanses of hard plastic begin to seem cheap, despite being easy to clean, which is a great feature for an off-road vehicle. For an additional $3,000, my tester came with the more affordable TRD option package, which included a sunroof, wireless charging, leather upholstery, a terrain-view monitor, and blind-spot monitoring. However, the full-throttle $12,400 for the TRD Pro is really steep, and I’d probably pass on it. 2027 Toyota Tacoma MPG
