We briefly considered whether the Japanese carmaker has built a rival to the Ford F-150 Raptor when images of the revamped Toyota Tundra Hybrid Pro surfaced online. After all the information was out, it was obvious that the 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is still a trim level for off-roading, but it lacks the Raptor’s extreme capabilities. It also has aftermarket-feeling parts that were slapped on. Exterior & Interior

It is astonishing to see a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine. The TRD exhaust system makes a very low-pitched guttural sound when cold-started, significantly higher in pitch than a V-8. The exhaust noise eventually disappears, but its deep and resonant sound remains. Pressing down on the accelerator pedal nearly makes you hear the turbos spool up and blow off if you’re paying close attention while driving. I adore it.  2026 Toyota Tundra Hybrid MPG

Tundras with fender flares are a little wider than prior trims, adding an inch to the truck’s total size and necessitating amber running lights because of the truck’s width of little over 80 inches. On the interior, you’ll find either red or black upholstery with camouflaged bottoms and backs. A decent effort, but a clumsy execution. Wow, this is really corny. The red inside choice is worse as it makes the design stand out more.

Conceptually, this makes sense, but in practice, it’s not well carried out. The goal of increasing the light output is to enhance reaction times by increasing the distance that can be seen down the road. This headlight isn’t going to accomplish that. The light bar of the TRD Pro is comparable in brightness to a $30 handheld flashlight, with an output of around 4,000 lumens. Even at night, it illuminated the roadside a little, but it didn’t illuminate the road itself. To activate the light bar, you must be driving in high beams, according to Toyota. Engine & Performance

The Tundra has a twin-turbo V-6 engine and an automated 10-speed gearbox. This engine is available in three different potencies. The lowest-level SR model comes with a non-hybrid engine that produces 348 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. Another set of numbers: 389 horses and 479 pound-feet. The electric motor in the hybrid variant makes it possible to drive on electric power alone at moderate speeds. The transmission incorporates it. The Tundra TRD Pro’s off-road prowess is enhanced by the 33-inch Falken Wildpeak 3 tires. Along with BBS forged 17-inch wheels, it has a bigger TRD front sway bar, TRD front springs, and 2.5-inch Fox Racing remote-reservoir shocks. I suppose it’s cool that the sway bar and springs are painted red. The truck has an excessively rigid ride, causing it to bounce over damaged roads and potholes in the Midwest. Unlike an F-150 Tremor, it isn’t plush and supple.

Everyone is wondering, of course, how much better gas mileage this new hybrid system will get. The 2025 model has not yet had official fuel efficiency numbers released. A rearview camera, automatic high beams, lane departure warning with steering aid, pre-collision system with pedestrian recognition, and a lane departure alarm are some of the safety features available on the Toyota Tundra. The Tundra is equipped with the Toyotacare Safety Connect system, which offers a range of services including automated crash notification, aid in locating stolen vehicles, and emergency roadside assistance.

According to the order guide, the 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will have a significant price hike for the next year’s model. A $1,210 bump brings the MSRP of the Tundra Hybrid Limited to $59,420 (not including destination). Since the Tundra Hybrid’s debut, Toyota has raised the price for the second year in a row.
